2013 HCI Global Talent Management Summit Part 2: Talent Mobility as the Driving Force behind Global Talent Management

The market has been hearing a lot about Talent Mobility (TM) lately, a workforce who is both highly skilled and able to move into new roles quickly.   TM keeps an organization agile and ready to respond to whatever changing demands are pressed upon the firm.   Kristen Leverone, Senior Vice President and Global Talent Development Practice Leader at Lee Hecht Harrison (LHH) discussed the results of a recent research survey conducted jointly by LHH and HCI today at the 2013 HCI Global Talent Management Summit.

"Organizations and talent need to do things differently,” stated Leverone.    Organizations who are the committed talent mobilizers will be the stronger performers.   Leverone identified some of the top challenges to TM for firms, like a lack of an overall strategic approach to identify future talent needs, a lack of prioritization of TM and talent “territorialsim” among key stakeholders.   The best in class firms for TM share some common traits which followers can emulate.  Firms with strong TM possess leaders who spend time and invest financial resources into TM.  Leaders who arm employees with the resources to capitalize on internal opportunities, who fill management positions typically from within, and who provide clear transparency around the advancement opportunities available.

To develop talent, firms need to move beyond the standard performance review to a more holistic and well rounded review process that is happening more frequently than once per year.  Companies need to be able to identify and pipeline successors to key positions ahead of the need, and organizations have to bring both transparency and transmission of that information to the entire workforce.
