Highlights from Day One of 2013 Talent Acquisition Technology Forum
HCI is in San Francisco and today is day one of HCI’s Talent Acquisition Technology Forum. Presenters from Oracle, General Electric, Accenture, Montage Talent, NIKE, Humana Inc. and CH2M Hill shared stories and best practices for implementing and using talent acquisition technologies to a room full of practitioners.
Some highlights from today’s sessions:
"Don’t start with technology, start with people, processes, and structure," said Shahbaz Alibaig, Recruitment Technology Leader, Talent Recruitment at General Electric. He explained the need from moving from a reactive to a proactive talent acquisition strategy and how size, scope, and history can deter innovation at some companies.
The audience was blown away by Rich Lishewski’s, Director of Global Recruiting at Nike, video-laden presentation. He shared the digital media Nike uses to attract talent through telling stories. However, the collective thought in the audience was “but what can I do with my budget?”
“Strategy drives tactics” was the driving message from Lou Alder from the Alder Group. He challenged the audience to be critical of technology and to tell vendors what you want.
“Collective Kinesis” is the energy of a group of people harassed to achieve something noteworthy. Christine Mellon, Vice President of HCM Transformation at Oracle explained how single recruiter as a point of contact could harass the power in his or her company and network to be more effective.
HCI kept up with technology by offering an event app. With the app, attendees can network and store contacts, keep track of the agenda, and view the presentation slide decks.
