Inclusive Onboarding Tactics for Retention, Learning, and Performance

General Session

HCI believes onboarding is THE critical connection point between the candidate and employee experience. Onboarding programs can foster a sense of belonging, enhance engagement, and enable new hires to quickly and easily become proficient in their roles by developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed in an organization. For too long however, onboarding has been an ignored or inconsistent talent management practice. Recent HCI research found that 76% of HR professionals report that onboarding has been underutilized.

This session will share findings from original HCI research to help practitioners address challenges in developing and executing onboarding programs. We share practices for building inclusion and belonging with your new hires and your existing culture. You will interact with your peers to hear how they are using blended learning approaches for onboarding.

In this research-based session, you will:

- Discover new ways to onboard and welcome new employees

- Build an onboarding roadmap for business-critical positions that includes the 3P’s-people, performance, and paperwork

- Explore how to balance individuality and diversity with your organization’s socialization process
