Next Week’s Forecast: Sunshine and Human Capital Know-How
As it has happens, the Midwest weather in which I live has been the topic of a previous blog or two, and this is no exception. If you make a home anywhere around the Ohio River Valley, you’ve probably become frustratingly used to the fall and winter-like temperatures of the past few weeks – you know, since the start of spring. But, I digress.
The weather inspiring me today is the balmy, sunshine-y 85 degree air at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida where I am headed next week to attend HCI’s annual Human Capital Summit. And let me tell you - I can barely contain my excitement. So much work today is focused on completing tasks and checking off to-do lists, and while those small actions are critical, it’s both thrilling and rewarding to take a step back and concentrate for a few days on the bigger picture.
What’s going on in talent management today? What are the challenges I face every day in my role, and how can I best address them? Where can I find the human capital tools and support I need to improve productivity, engage the workforce, and drive bottom-line results? These big questions are relevant, and their answers are significant. Especially in light of the world in which we live where information and decisions turn on a dime, building flexible business acumen to better manage such change and complexity is crucial.
We have collected a panel of expert thought leaders like author Liz Wiseman, statistician Nate Silver, and talent maven Dan Pink to start the conversation next week, supported by senior leaders and practitioners from some of the world’s leading and innovative organizations like Zynga, Sony, Nike, and Humana, among many others. Together, their insights and experiences will help reinvigorate your organizations’ talent practices, and arm you with the resources, information, and instruments you need to put new and inventive ideas into immediate practice.
Best of all, HCI’s Human Capital Summit and its wealth of information is available to everyone – even if you’re unable to make the trip to Orlando. Our Virtual Conference platform is the perfect opportunity for you to experience the knowledge and perspectives shared from the comfort of your own desk. I can’t promise the weather outside your door will cooperate, but you won’t miss out on the valuable tips, tricks, tools, and data on the ballot for discussion.
Breaking up the daily grind is sometimes hard to do, but it’s a necessary move to keep you engaged and motivated in your work. And if all that gear-switching is accompanied by 85 degrees, sand between your toes, and the adoration of Mickey Mouse and his friends, who am I to complain?
