Talent Review Maturity Model
Author
Today’s volatile marketplace presents recurring challenges to Human Resources and Talent Management professionals. Decades of research advocate for HR earning a seat at the table where business strategy is discussed and established. These strategies historically have focused on operational excellence without applying equal weight to critical processes that drive people-related value, such as performance management, succession planning, learning and development, assessments, employee listening, and talent reviews.
Although talent reviews can produce deep talent insights and intelligence, few HR professionals agree that this process is making a difference and leading to positive action. A recent (Q4 2023) CHRO Roundtable with Gallup uncovered that only 50% of companies felt that their 9-box grid was effective in their organization. Some organizations find talent reviews to be effective, whereas others are not experiencing value from this process.
Ultimately, as an important component of a talent-management strategy, a successful talent-review approach is strategic and comprehensive; has leadership support; relies on effective communications and change management interventions; leverages the right mix of process and tools; and infuses accountability for action.
